Although the demonstrations in the middle east against local governments began in March of 2011 were peaceful in nature, they quickly escalated after the governments’ violent crackdown. Soon different entities found voices that shot bullets and RPGs, while pushing their own agenda in the wake of an apparent civil war. Mass unrests of unprecedented magnitude in 17 North African, Middle Eastern and Arab countries with the governments of Tunisia, Egypt and Libya replaced by more or less democratic counterparts. Most countries transitioned peacefully from Arab Spring, the Syrian civil war is ongoing with the international community unable to take active measures to bring peace and stability to the war stricken nation. The ISIS, although is losing ground by the day, the sheer damage it has caused and continues to cause has practically made most of the country unlivable. The UN has identified 13.6 million Syrian refugees to require human assistance, while various countries are pulled in to this turmoil through dealing with the greatest refugee crisis the world has ever seen since World War II. It is upon the Human Rights Council to find a permanent solution for these people, who ask for one thing and one thing only, for us to live up to the promise the founding members of the United Nations once made proclaiming it to be the augur that will have the potential to protect the people of this world. We at Pathways Model United Nations invite the delegates to indulge in a solution building process to help millions seek their basic human rights.
