The Session began with the General Speaker’s List, where the Delegate of Russia spoke, unwilling to rise from his chair. As predicted, arguments broke out between Russia and the USA beginning with a slight confusion about ‘Article 24’. This led to them to ignoring decorum and walking to the Executive Board, who played the role of the mediating parent as both pushed their points, laptops in hand.
These controversial debates between the USA and Russia were probably what kept most of the committee from dozing off, though this ought not to take the spotlight off of the Delegate of UK, whose distinctive voice rang through the room every time she sprung up from her chair when she was recognized. She mentioned being terribly worried about the “lack of knowledge in the committee”.
It was also entertaining to see the Delegate of USA excitedly tapping the table in excited encouragement when any delegate diplomatically disregarded Russia, perhaps being a tad too petty for a conference as serious as this.
